On vacation

Dec
27

I've spent the past 9 days in VE4-land. A much needed vacation, and Christmas is always the best time to go home. One thing that I did notice on the day that we left, is that my HF beam has become out of alignment - 90° out of alignment to be specific. Obviously, being in Manitoba has hindered my efforts in getting that fixed, but this will take priority upon my return.

CQWW: An experience.

Nov

With the help of N8FM and NM8W, we set out to run VA3UG as a Multi-Multi station this year. All band, low power. Or, at least, that was the original plan.

T-minus 6 days

Oct
22

Only 6 days until the start of the 2011 CQ WW contest. I spent a part of the day at the VE3WHT shack where myself, Steve N8FM, and Craig KD8NJZ will be operating as a M/M station. Low Power, M/M to be specific. N1MM has been networked between all of the stations, and we're pretty much all set and ready to go. Here's to hoping that 10m stays open as well as it has been as of late.

Almost there

Oct
06

I'm quite the procrastinator. My shack still isn't 100%. However, that being said, I'm almost there. 6m is hooked back up, and for once, there's little to no noise on the band! Quite the improvement from summer, where 6m was nearly unusable. Now, all I need is a band opening.

Fall is here

Sep

Fall is here, and with that, so are the monthly meetings of the Border City Radio Club. Which also means that I need to start up with their newsletter again. Oh the fun of trying to come up with articles. Seriously, I do enjoy doing it.

Shack update

Jul
24

Been quite awhile since I've posted anything here. As I suffer from procrastination something fierce, especially during the summer, I still haven't had a chance to put the shack back together 100% as of yet. That being said, I have made some progress on it. Namely, cleaning and sorting. The walls are painted, just need to touch up a few spots, and then I'm pretty much done.

Hot hot hot

May
30

Way too hot outside to work on the antennas right now, so I'm inside - where it's equally as hot, trying to cool off.

Perhaps tonight I'll start to work on the Dayton 2011 pictures I have on the web gallery. Once they have been sorted through, they'll be posted to the gallery. Stay tuned!

Complete!

May
08

With many thanks to VA3VS, VE3RHZ and VE3MPH, the tower and beam are back up. Along with the tower, the 40/80 wires are back in the air as well. Painting in the shack is complete, except for a couple of small touch up spots (get that done tonight), and the wood trim along the baseboards. Things are finally coming together here at VA3UG, and will definitely be complete later this week for sure. Pictures can be found in the photo gallery, link is above.

New website

Apr
20

So I finally decided to move the ve3zin.com website off of the linux box in the basement and put it on a hosted site. Should be a ton faster, and I don't have to worry about bandwidth limitations.

That being said, until I get the website up and running, there's really only a few things you can do:

1) Check out the last known location of VA3UG-9 on APRS,
2) Access the VE3ZIN-2 DX Cluster, and
3) Watch streaming video from VA3UG
4) Access the Photo Gallery
5) Listen to Detroit's WX radio
